Insights into the Victoria Patient Care Centre, a World Class Hospital Serving Vancouver Island

Presented by Howard Waldner, President and CEO of Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA)

The Royal Jubilee Patient Care Centre (PCC), a new state-of-the-art hospital in Victoria, BC, recently won Best International Project at the 2010 Public Private Finance Awards in London, England.

Join us on May 25th as Howard Waldner, President and CEO of Vancouver Island Health Authority, shares his insights on this extremely complex project.

The facility opened on March 14th and set a new standard for patient care both on Vancouver Island and across the country. The Patient Care Centre is leading edge in three key areas: the environment, staff and patients. As one of the world's first acute care hospital to be designed specifically for elder care, the facility will provide a better and safer care environment for VIHA's growing, aging population.
Other project highlights include:

    *    Over 80% single rooms with private bathrooms for enhanced privacy, confidentiality, comfort and infection control;
    *    State of the art design and technology that meet LEED Gold standards;
    *    Access to natural light, natural ventilation and green spaces.

Howard Waldner joined the Vancouver Island Health Authority as President and Chief Executive Officer in October 2004.

Prior to this appointment, Howard was the former Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Calgary Health Region - a post he held for five years.

Preceding the move to Canada in 1999, Howard held several Chief Executive Officer and Senior Executive positions within the National Health Service in the United Kingdom.

Howard received his MBA from the University of Glasgow, Scotland and is an active member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders. He is also a Fellow of the UK Institute of Health Care Management and an Adjunct Professor with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia.
